Mike Murphy knows of what he writes. The longtime Wall Street trader has recently found himself barreling down his own personal exit ramp to start a new phase of a storied career that has seen its share of bull and bear markets.

Twenty-five years ago he moved into the Wall Street fast lane at Baltimore silk stocking investment house, Alex Brown and Sons, where he served as a senior member of the firm’s Institutional department. He then moved on as Director of Trading for Morgan Grenfell Capital Management and later became a founding partner of the investment firm, Kern Capital Management.

Murphy later joined a small legion of Alex Brown colleagues at Wachovia Securities and took on the challenge of building an equity capital markets business virtually from scratch.

As head of Equity Trading he was a fixture on Wall Street and a frequent guest commentator on Fox, CNBC, CNN and Bloomberg Television.

Recently he founded Piney Run Capital LLC, a financial services firm where he manages a hedge fund and consults on industry issues.

He resides north of Baltimore on a farm tucked amongst the rolling hills of Maryland’s horse country.
